Hybrid Day…with a freebie!

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Hi everyone! In case you haven’t heard, Amanda is celebrating her 3rd year designing! We’re planning lots of cool stuff on the blog for you this month as a part of the celebration, so today I thought I’d do an invitation to the party for you! The really cool thing about hybrid invitations, is that you can have them printed really cheap at your local Walgreens, Wal-Mart, CVS, etc, and then slide them into 6×4 envelopes and stick them in the mail! Easy Peasy and you then have custom invitations for your event! And to make it even easier for you, I’m giving away this invitation quick page! All you have to do is insert your photo, add your event info, and print them out! Here’s the one I did for Amanda’s blog celebration, the digital version on top, and then the one I printed below. (Please forgive the photo, it’s a little dark.)

I hope you enjoy and use the invitation for all those spring parties and backyard bar-b-cue’s you’ll be having, and don’t forget to come back here and check out all the fun stuff we have planned for you this month!

Until next time!

An Easy Hybrid Card

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Do you love the look of hybrid crafts, but think its too intimidating?  Too hard?  Too complicated or time consuming?  If you are, then I’m here to prove all those notions aren’t true!  Making hybrid stuff is so much fun!  It’s not really that hard if you know how to scrap and you know how to use scissors and glue!  Today I have an easy tutorial for you to follow, and even a little freebie to make it that much quicker!

I recently made this gift set for a friend of mine who just suffered a miscarriage.  We’re going to be making the card today.

Step 1: Download and open the card template I’ve made for you:

ahd-hybrid-card-template

Step 2: Use as you would any other template, and use your papers & embellishments of choice.  Feel free to add to it any way you like!  Here’s what mine looked like:

ahd-hybrid-card

Step 3:  Now, you can choose whether you want to add shadows and then flatten the layers, and print it like that, OR you can drag the layers (unshadowed) into a new 8.5×11 document and print it, like I did:

When I made my card, I chose not to print the red papers, instead I used a brick red cardstock I already had in my stash to make my card base and mat under the journalling block.  Feel free to do that if you would like!

Step 4:  Cut your card base out of cardstock.  This card is 5×5 when finished, so you need to cut your card base at 10×5.  Score (you can use a bone folder, a stylus, a pen that has no ink, even a spoon or butter knife – just don’t press too hard & rip your paper) at 5″ and fold in half, and you are ready to add your papers.  Glue on your card front (if you’ve flattened it), or cut out all your pieces and assemble your card, gluing them down as you go.

Step 5: If you have any traditional supplies stashed away, pull them out and play.  I used  Prima flowers, a button and a rhinestone to complete my card.  If you don’t have any of those things, you can always print a flower or embellie, cut it out & add it to the card.

Step 6:  Sit back, have a cup of coffee & congratulate yourself!  You’ve finished a card, and it wasn’t that difficult at all!

February Freebie!

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Hi everyone and Happy February! I am excited because February is a short month, the days are getting longer and you can almost feel spring in the air. I know it is a while yet, but one can hope.

While I am waiting for spring to come there are a few distractions to keep me busy and the first one is Valentines Day! Awwww… the day of love, where your loved one showers you with chocolates and flowers and jewelery… oh wait, I forgot, that is only in my dreams! For me, it is more about making sure the day care has treats for the valentines party, the kids have red clothes to wear and I don’t miss anyone’s name on a Valentine! Someday my husband and I will have a romantic getaway, but for now I will dream of a quiet night!

While I am planning for valentines day I thought this year that I would try to make my own. While I was working on some of them I thought that you might like to try it too. You could just email them to whomever you want or you could print them and decorate like a hybrid project and send them in the mail or to the daycare if need be!

I made my sample one here with Momma’s Boy, one of Amanda’s new kits and it is PERFECT for valentines, lots of strong colors, reds and blues and purples, lots of hearts and cute word art. There are all sorts of other kits that would work just as well but this is one of my latest favorites and if you haven’t seen it take a peek and check it out.

So I hope you have fun trying out this template, making your valentines and dropping lots of hints as to what you would love to get from your loved one for Valentines day. Let me know if any of them work and I might try it on my husband!

Until next week!

Get Inspired… for Hybrid!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Hi Amanda fans!!

Have you taken a browse through the gallery in awhile?  I admit, I haven’t had much time the last few weeks to browse through, and I know that you are all busily preparing for the upcoming holiday!  So I looked through the gallery today to see what was new (LOTS of x-mas layouts!!), and found a few hybrid projects that were just TOO CUTE not to show off!!

First up is this popcorn box by Samara Gugler – isn’t it just adorable???  Imagine all the things you could tuck into it!  Nobody says a popcorn box HAS to hold popcorn right?

Then I ran across these little gems by CT member Vickilyn (aka hybrid goddess, lol).  I just loved these projects so much, and can imagine all kinds of gifts being tucked into these.  Maybe a years worth of photos, favorite photos, a slideshow of layouts to send to grandparents can be tucked into the CD holder.  Gift cards, small albums, or maybe jewelry could be tucked into the cute little box!  Or you could make them with any other kit and make them year round!!

And then I ran across this exploding box created by team member Trina (slurpeegirl13).  Can you believe this is her FIRST hybrid project?  She looks like a pro to me!

I don’t know about you, but seeing these really makes me want to print and assemble something!!  We are staying with friends for the weekend – maybe I should make a little thank you box and tuck a GC inside??  Sounds good to me!
